Earlier today, Tommy joined Mayor Adrian M. Fenty, Executive Director of the Office of Public Education Facilities Modernization (OPEFM) Allen Y. Lew, several community leaders and the construction team for a "groundbreaking" to celebrate the modernization work on Eastern Senior High School. Work technically began a few months ago, but today's groundbreaking was symbolic to show exciting work ahead.

The modernization for Eastern High School is an approximately $65 million and is a head-to-toe renovation. It includes extensive improvements including hazardous material abatement, roofing and window replacement, new mechanical / electrical / plumbing systems, and full restoration of the auditorium.

The updated school is scheduled to be completed in August of 2010, just in time for the new school year.
