Councilmember Wells Calls for Nominations for the 2nd Annual Livable, Walkable Community Awards

On Friday, November 14th, Councilmember Tommy Wells announced the opening of nominations for the 2nd Annual Livable, Walkable Community Awards.

“To create a truly livable, walkable community, it takes leadership and vision -- not just from those elected to office, but also from our neighbors, city employees, civic organizations, and local businesses,” said Mr. Wells. “To honor their initiative and hard work, I created this annual award to recognize outstanding efforts for community members in each of these categories.”

Councilmember Wells has made a call for nominations from residents of the District. “What does livable, walkable mean to you and who best represents what it takes to make it a reality?” he asked in an email announcement to constituents.

Over 75 individuals and organizations were nominated for the award in the four categories last year, and the awards ceremony came on the heels of DC being named the most “walkable” city in the country. In addition, Ward 6 was recognized by the American Planning Association twice in 2008 for “Great Places in America”; Best Neighborhood – Eastern Market and Best Public Space – Union Station.

Individuals can fill out a nomination form on the Councilmember’s website by clicking here. Nominations will close at 5:00 pm on November 28th and Mr. Wells will announce the awards at his annual holiday party on Thursday, December 4th, 6:30 - 8:30 pm at the Atlas Performing Arts Center, 1333 H Street, NE.
