Pedestrian Safety Forum, Part 2: Creating Solutions

On February 27, 2008, Councilmember Tommy Wells hosted a community forum titled “Pedestrian Safety Forum: Identifying Problems.” Residents were updated by representatives from the Department of Transportation on many pedestrian safety initiatives, and then community members worked in small groups to identify specific problems facing pedestrian safety. Most problems listed were categorized in one of two categories: systemic / city-wide problems and street / intersection specific problems. But overwhelmingly, residents agreed that in regard to the District’s transportation policy, the priority must be on the pedestrian and the focus should not be on creating more convenience for motorists.
