Councilmember Wells Calls for Nominations for the 3rd Annual Livable, Walkable Community Awards

On Monday, November 9th, Councilmember Tommy Wells announced the opening of nominations for the 3rd Annual Livable, Walkable Community Awards. Nominations can be made on the Councilmember’s website, www.TommyWells.org.

Wells noted that to create a truly livable, walkable community, it takes leadership and vision -- not just from those elected to office, but also from everyone in the community. The annual award seeks to recognize the outstanding efforts of neighbors, city employees, civic organizations, and local businesses.

Through the nominations, Wells asks residents, “What does livable, walkable mean to you and who best represents what it takes to make it a reality?”

Over the last couple of years, DC has been named the most “walkable” city in the country, and was recognized for great neighborhoods and public spaces. But we still have a long way to go to realize our shared goal of making every DC neighborhood livable and walkable.

Last year, over 100 individuals and organizations were nominated for the award in the four categories.

Individuals can fill out a nomination form on the Councilmember’s website -- www.TommyWells.org. Nominations will close on November 30th and Mr. Wells will announce the awards at his annual holiday party on December 7th at the North Hall of Eastern Market (corner of 7th Street and North Carolina Avenue, SE).
