DDOT is developing expansion plans for the SmartBike DC program. To be able to use the bikes, you must have a subscription, currently priced at $40 annually, which provides unlimited access to the system. The District currently has 10 bike-sharing stations but DDOT intends to open another 90 stations, hopefully by later this year. The goal is to get SmartBike stations in all eight Wards eventually, but for now, DDOT plans to fan out from the city center in concentric circles – so that if one station is full (or empty, presumably), you don’t have too far to go to find another. There’s probably some semi-complicated analysis involved in deciding what makes a location amenable to SmartBikes – jobs, housing, transit options, bikeway availability, retail and entertainment destinations, and other similarly-themed criteria – but surely demand is considered as well. We’d like to hear your suggestions for new stations. Think about where you live, where you go, and how you get there – where would you like to see new SmartBike locations?

Over and over again, it's mentioned in reviews that there is no metro station there, this would improve access. Also, maybe use Zipcar lots for docking stations? Tons of those around. Written by Guest User () |
