A few days ago, our office started receiving phone calls and emails with complaints about night-time construction at the Waterside Mall (Waterfront) redevelopment site at 4th and M Street, SW. Simply put, the night-time construction was very loud and disturbing for nearby residents. We contacted DDOT about the problem and after inspectors researched the issue, they informed us that permits had been given by the agency for late night work. Along with the ANC leadership, we asked them to change the times of the permits and prohibit the night-time construction. We've got great news to share. Special thanks goes to ANC 6D Chair Andy Litsky -- who shared his conversation this afternoon with DDOT. The agency reported that night-time construction will no longer occur and that they will have inspectors on site this evening to make sure the new agreement is kept. In addition, DDOT and DCRA will issue new permits to confine the construction to daytime hours only. Thank you everyone that contacted our office so we could help, and another special thanks to Commissioner Litsky who helped work directly with DDOT to make sure they got the message.

I called 311 about a street problem in SW the other day and got a solution within a few hours. So the city seems to be working and responding to resident complaints by solving issues efficiently. Kudos. |
