DC United Present a Check to Help Eastern MarketIt was a great weekend for Eastern Market.  At a ceremony on Sunday,  Councilmember Wells and Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton were on hand as D.C. United Co-Managing partners Victor MacFarlane and Will Chang and CEO Kevin Payne presented a check for $50,000 to the Capitol Hill Community Foundation (CHCF) in their effort to support the merchants displaced after the fire.  Sunday was also the official unfurling of the banner reminding everyone that the Market is still open for business while construction continues on the official temporary location at Hine Jr. High.  United had committed that $3.00 per every ticket sold at the recent match with the Houston Dynamo, totaling $43,000, would be given to CHCF for the merchants but, then they surprised all by adding the additional money to round up their total contribution to a very sizeable $50,000.  According to CEO Kevin Payne, this was in keeping with their mission to "win championships and to serve the community."  Councilmember Wells said the community was "extremely grateful for the generous donation and happy to have such dedicated community partners."  He also called on local residents to help get the word out that the Market "may look different, but is still up and running."  Delegate Norton proclaimed she would continue to seek line item budget support from her colleagues in Congress.
